Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara

This is the story of three mates who have promised each other a trip together where they’d do what the others want them to and what better excuse than to turn this trip into a bachelor party of sorts?

The movie starts with Kabirย (Abhay Deol) proposing to Natashaย (Kalki Koechlin) and how Kabir, Imranย (Farhaan Akhtar) and Arjunย (Hrithik Roshan) get together for their fantasy holiday. They go to Spain for this trip of theirs and you’re treated to fantastic panoramic views of beautiful Spain. I’ve actually put it on my bucket list of sorts to visit the place sometime.

In Spain they meet Laylaย (Katrina Kaif) who is their diving instructor and Arjun finds himself attracted to her. All three men, in a nutshell, are facing their fears in their own ways. Each friend has set up a surprise task for the the three of them to do together and it shows a journey of sorts of letting go.

Arjun realises it’s not all about the money or competing with his friends, Imran meets his biological father for the first time and Kabir struggles to find out life is not about making or keeping others happy if he’s not happy in the first place.

Layla very eloquently said ‘The only time a person should be in a box is when they’re dead’.

The one-liners are fantastic. There is humour, there are deep thoughts, there are a lot of life lessons but they’re only visible if you’re willing to seize them. I watched this movie on the big screen the first time and got the DVD too because it’s definitely a movie I know I’ll watch it over and again. Zoya has done an excellent job in portraying this movie and I absolutely adore the entire soundtrack of this movie. Not a single song seems out of place in the entire movie and the poetry penned by Javed Akhtar for Farhan Akhtar is out of this world. I really enjoyed the poetry.

As I write this, I have watched it nine times. And I want a *Bagwati. Also a beautiful embroidered Spanish shawl…
