Please give a small bio of yourself.
I am Evone Selvarajah, a first generation Kenyan, born in Srilanka and raised in
Kenya. I look forward to turning 44 this year!
My career began at the age of 17 with SsangYong Motors as a sales Executive, I
juggled studying and worked for various top organizations in the same field
and made it to the managerial level.
In my journey I have sold cars, outdoor advertising spaces, offered logistics
solutions, taught English to speakers of other languages and even taken up a
cake baking/decorating course and sold cakes professionally.
I established a real estate company, Eden heights realty in 2009 โ The
company grew from 1 person to currently a dynamic team of 55 people. Eden
heights offers professional real estate solutions and believes strongly in
fairness, accountability, ethical practice and transparency.
Being a working mother did not stop me from furthering my studies, I went
back in 2014 to pursue a Masters degree in Valuations and Property
Management at the University of Nairobi and also got registered with the
estate agents registration board of Kenya.
You can follow me on social media, simply search Evone Selvarajah.
Describe yourself.
I thrive on serving others, making a difference, a positive impact and
influencing peoples lives for the better through my passion for service and
other abilities.
How do you think people perceive you?
I am hoping – compassionate, driven, solution oriented, super positive, vibrant,
agile and generous with my abilities/ideas.
What do you think about when youโre alone in your car? I think a lot about my
late Mother, her voice, her scent, her laughter and our inside jokes. I also think
about what next to create , dance moves and question the existence of movie
like romance.. does it exist?
Tell us something we donโt know.
I Have 5 tattoos, I have always wanted to become a professional Salsa dancer
and I can make/do waves in my tummy, the exact ones like belly dancers.
How many friendships have you ruined because you refused to play a game
of Monopoly mercifully?
None, I always let them win and have their wayโฆ refer to answer No. 3, I am
generous remember.
How long does it take you to scroll through Instagram before you eventually
give up?
I focus on many things, social media is only one element of several in my life,
so not too long, I love balance and moderation.
What do you think cats dream about?
Perhaps a serious escape from their enemies.
If you were a Disney/ mythological character, who would you choose to be?
Pocahontas without a doubt, – she was fearless, fierce, passionate, brave and
rescued many. I quite like her long hair, curves and dusky skin tone.
Youโve got to give one up:
Coffee
Cheese
Why would you not give up the other?
My willpower is out of this world if I
should say so myself, so I could give up bother overnight. Yes, just like that.
Dead to me, but coffee over cheese. I must admit, there is something about
the aroma of freshly brewed coffee that gets me going, everything looks,
sounds and feels magnificent!
What do you think is completely overrated in this world?
โYour outside vs your insideโ โฆ. I still feel like the former takes precedence in
many situations. Oneโs appearance, social /financial standing, brands that one
associates themselves with are a hotter topic and given way too much
attention or a higher opinion than actually deserved. It would be refreshing to
see people go on and on about the depth of a personโs soul and content of
their character instead.
What series are you watching currently and would you recommend it to
others?
Vampire Diaries โ nail biting, and great eye candy ๐ hey! Donโt judge me.. I am
only human.
If you have no financial restrictions at all, what would be the one thing you
would buy for yourself?
A plane and unlimited classes / workshops and seminars with Sadhguru. He
changed my life completely!
Do you ever compliment yourself? Do you acknowledge your success or the
good job that youโre doing?
I find it difficult to pat myself on the back as a result of my insecurities, and ups
and downs with life in general, but feel quite content and reassured that I am
on the right track when people thank me for the difference I have made in
their lives.
Who applauds your success the most?
It would be unfair to name just one person. A number are rooting for me.
Always.
Five worldly possessions you cannot live without.
Live without are big words, I am not attached as such to possessions but I
treasure things that belonged to my late mother like her Bible, shawls, sarees,
reading glasses, her beautiful tea-sets, old photographs, my books and my
paintings by Kamal Kaur.
**Editor’s note – I didn’t pay her to say that. ๐
Whatโs your favourite holiday destination that youโll go to again and again?
Srilanka. I love staying connected to my family, roots, heritage and the place where my journey began and especially because it reminds me the most of my
Mother.
Whatโs your honest opinion on family Whatsapp groups?
Has great advantages, families stay connected and can seek guidance, but on
the downside they can also be destructive because A) this platform can be
used to target relatives indirectly as some key board warriors say things on
social media platforms that they normally wouldnโt say to your face and B) face
to face conversations are better for confrontations etc as messages can be
misinterpreted or misunderstood, some people may not understand the
importance of boundary management and social media etiquette
unfortunately.
Lastly, youโve been gifted an elephant. You canโt give it away or sell it. What
would you do with it?
I donโt want to sound like the late Karen Blixen but I have a lovely garden,
which I love to call Eden, because I am, wait for itโฆโฆ.. EVE! Sell her? No way!
Ella my elephant and I – Eve will have a marvellous time in Eden. We will chill
out, dance, play and work together, especially because we have this vision
towards sustainable living/ a permaculture lifestyle at Eden.
