I love the concept of English high tea and I decided to make some scones for tea. Even though the ingredients are usually what we have at home, I realised that I didn’t have all the items.
No worries there! I just logged on to onntheway.com and filled my cart with the ingredients. The shopping was delivered to me in less than two hours and I was really very impressed. They also have a personal shopper service but i chose to shop from the site. Even though i’m still isolating and haven’t stepped out, it doesn’t mean that I won’t impulse-shop!
So here is the recipe for delicious English scones.
INGREDIENTS:
3 cups homemaking flour
1/2 cup white sugar
5 level teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
3/4 cup butter
1 egg, lightly beaten
1 cup milk
METHOD:
First things first. Switch on the oven to 200 degrees Centigrade.
Mix the flour, sugar, baking powder and salt.
Add the butter and mix well.
Mix the egg and milk together and pour slowly into the flour mixture as you bring together all the ingredients.
At this point, I divided the mixture into two parts and added a lot of raisins to this. I really love raisins!
Flour the surface and roll one part of the mixture to 1/2 inch thickness.
Use a cookie cutter to cut a round shape.
Repeat this process with the remaining mixture.
Place cut out mixture on lined baking tray.
Bake for 15 minutes or until light golden brown.
Served best with jam and clotted or whipped cream.
These can be made ahead and stored in an airtight container. I’m unable to advise how long for because these scones don’t last long at all in our house!
Enjoy!
Yummy! Will try this once I get hold of some butter.
